Your Values as a Coat of Arms
Create purpose at work by connecting your values to your work & excel by leveraging your strengths in everything.
I asked myself: what were the three times I was happiest at work?
- When I began to understand a project well enough that I became a thought partner in daily stand-ups.
- When I solved a problem that no one else could crack.
- A values exercise where we spent half a day telling our deepest personal stories and then extracting values each one of us heard out of them.
Then I asked: what do I excel at?
- I can generate from a seemingly endless pool of high-quality unique approaches to relatively commonplace things.
- I can inspire others to action through verbal communication. When I'm at dinner chats others are inspired by the topics that I bring up. I often end up driving the group conversation while not talking the most.
- I can see how things may progress and grow months or years down the road.
From those answers, I built my coat of arms:
- Innovation — finding a unique approach to a commonplace problem or occurrence
- Connectedness — connected to mind, body, and others. Connect ideas to create bridges for others
- Curiosity — continue to learn, continue to experiment, continue to explore
- Belief — believe in yourself
- Thoughtfulness — have an opinion, be prepared, consider how your decision will impact others
