Do It to Your Absolute Best
One of the worst pieces of advice that I got in my 20s was to divorce my heart from my work so that I could allocate more time elsewhere.
This was a terrible piece of advice because it gave me a reason to do things half-assed.
When I was working at Pinterest and LinkedIn I always had a side-hustle. Some big audacious project that I wanted to see over the line. But, I also worked really really hard. I would try to do too much. I'd get too stretched. So, I thought maybe I could shift down in my job and coast a bit.
I regret it.
I think there are times when we have to take on more than we feel like we can. But this wasn't one of those times for me. I should've said no to more things. And to the things that I said yes to — go all in.
If you're going to do anything, do it to your absolute best ability. Push yourself to find out where you think your limits are, then push past that.
Always.
