[Founder Notes] Charles Goodyear
Probably the most obsessive and persistent founder I've read about yet. Spent 20 years trying to make vulcanized rubber, full-time. He had what people called "manic optimism."
His belief in his destiny allowed him to keep going with what many called superhuman perseverance — and fueled his ability to sell his products.
The cost: he didn't limit his downside. He fell into much financial ruin and died in debt, even with income from rubber patents. Very pro-patent.
So obsessed that for many years he could only talk about rubber. He built for others. Literally believed rubber products would save lives.
