The CEO and Product Problem
Most CEOs want to be a product leader. The challenge is that most CEOs know the problem intuitively. While this may be helpful in finding initial product/market fit it doesn't scale well. Thus PMs can become order takers from CEOs, eventually losing the ability to push correct decisions over bad ones. Scaling products requires data-driven decisions.
Quick aside on data vs qualitative feedback — it depends on stage. Early stage: qualitative. Mid-to-late stage (scaling): data. And getting data right is very difficult.
